That's a healthier dynamic for anyone buying a home to actually live in, and it means less competition from the "get in, get out" crowd. Townhouses are actually the one segment bucking the slowdown, with sales up 0.7% year-over-year â worth a look if that's your target.Benchmark price sits at $1,081,900 â down 5.6% year-over-year, which is part of why this window is opening up for buyers. Interest Rate Update â August 2026
No Move on Rates â But Don't Get Too ComfortableThe Bank of Canada held its benchmark rate at 2.25% on September 2nd â the 7th straight hold. GDP growth actually surprised to the upside (up 3.3% in Q2), but the Bank flagged that inflation is running around 3%, driven mostly by gas prices, and that new U.S. tariffs and Canada's counter-measures are adding uncertainty to the recovery.Translation: rates aren't moving yet, but the Bank is watching trade tensions and oil prices closely â either could tip the next decision. Mark your calendar for the next announcement on October 28th.
A quick note for my film industry friends: if youâre self-employed or working contract to contract, a good Mortgage Broker is especially important.
